Madagascar 2 was the main film to drive admissions in December and by taking £15.8m in the last month of the year it became the number 10 film of the year in just a month.
Vince Vaughn's 2008 Christmas comedy Four Christmases held it's own in the Christmas period and took a further £7.8m in December.
The Day the Earth Stood Still was the 3 rd highest grossing film in December taking £6.4m
Whilst the teen vampire romance Twilight took an impressive £6.2m due to its success in America and the popularity of the novel of the same name by Stephanie Meyer.
In fifth place, Yes Man has proved another success for Jim Carrey. Taking £4m in six days, (and £6.6m including 2009 takings) the film is now just £440k behind the total takings for Fun with Dick and Jane, Jim Carrey's last live action film.
