Cinema admissions for August stood at 17.8m up 18.4% year on year, making it the second biggest month of the year.
The average weekly admissions figure for August was 4.0m.
Year to date admissions are currently 12.4% up year on year at 116m.
Continuing its success into August, The Simpsons Movie was the biggest film of the month with a massive £19.9m.
Matt Damon returns to the big screen in the third Bourne series, The Bourne Ultimatum. It featured in second place for the month with £16.1m.
Transformers, the much awaited robotic action adventure, made it to third place with £11.8m.
Despite its release mid July, the fifth in the Harry Potter series was the fourth biggest film of the month with £9.3m.
