• Cinema admissions for August stood at 20.4m, an increase of a massive 14.9% year on year.
UK Cinemas attracted over 50 million visitors (53,642,237) between June and August this year, an increase of 5.6% year on year representing almost three million more people than over the same period in 2007.
This makes summer 2008 the most successful summer cinema period since 1969.
The average weekly admissions figure for August was 4.61m.
The growth in August comes predominantly from the continued success of The Dark Knight as well as the phenomenal Mamma Mia! and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.
The highest grossing film of the month was The Dark Knight. It took £27.2 in Aug alone however Mamma Mia! was close behind taking £25.6m.
There is a huge drop off between #2 and #3 as the third instalment of The Mummy franchise became the third highest grossing film of August taking £10.9m
The adorable Wall-E was number 4 in Augusts' top ten (£9.9m)
In fifth place, the second instalment of Hellboy (The Golden Army) took £5.6m in the 10 days it was released for in August.
