• Cinema admissions for July stood at 21.4m down -1.9% year on year.
This is particularly good considering that last July was the highest month on record
The average weekly admissions figure for July was 4.83m.
The growth in July comes predominantly from the fantastic success of Mamma Mia!, Hancock and despite a late date release and good weather , The Dark Night.
The highest grossing film of the month was Mamma Mia! The feel good film that has had audiences dancing in the aisles. It took £28.9m in July alone.
Will Smith's latest 4 th of July release, Hancock enters the month's top 10 at number 2, taking £23.5m.
Despite releasing on one of the hottest weekends of the year to date and also releasing at the end of the month. The Dark Knight (the first Batman film that doesn't have Batman in its title) made it to third position taking £18.6m between 25 th – 31 st July alone.
Kung Fu Panda , another 4 th of July release, saw Angelina Jolie, Jack Black and Dustin Hoffman draw in the audiences for the highest family film of the month.
In fifth place, the loveable (and Oscar worthy – in my opinion!) Wall- E took £11.5m in the 2 weeks it was released for in July.
